Becoming a model in Miami

Miami is one of the most active markets for Modeling and Photography. The weather, sunshine, palm trees, and ocean create the perfect setting for swimwear, fashion, and other types of photography.

Miami and Miami Beach have many modeling agencies representing models ranging from promotional models to supermodels; and even though they represent totally different clients, they all have one thing in common: if you don't have a book/portfolio, they will not be interested in you. Why is that? Well, quite simply: if you want someone to hire you as a photo model, you have to show what you look like in picture... sounds obvious, but a lot of aspiring models fail to grasp that concept at first.

Your portfolio should reflect the type of modeling you are interested in pursuing, and the type of photography that your look/body type calls for. If you are 5'4” 120lbs 34DD high fashion will not be a fit for you, so having high fashion images in your portfolio, will no help at all. A good photographer will not only help you build a great starter portfolio, but he/she will also help you determine which types of modeling you are a best fit for. Once you have determined the type of modeling you want to pursue, you will be able to develop the portfolio that can get you in the door of modeling agencies.

Besides having a relevant, and quality portfolio, it is very important to be dedicated. Miami is home to some of the most beautiful men and women in the world. Where you come from you may be the hottest thing in town, but down here you could be the girl or guy next door. What will differentiate you from the other models is your work ethics. If you show up on time (early), work your hardest to get the best picture, follow directions well, and never give anyone attitude, photographers will call you back for other shoots, clients will want to hire you to represent their products, and agencies will push you because they will believe that you will make their clients happy. In other words, if working with you is easy, everyone will want to work with you, if you're a diva, your phone will never ring.

Remember, good photographer/model collaboration leads to good photos, good photos lead to agencies, and good work ethics lead to a lot of money!
